The Red UnDead

So after the truly amazing Red Dead Redemption hit the shops in May it has become one the most critically renowned games ever made. This is well deserved with one of the best plots, game worlds and all around inspiring gameplay to be encapsulated into any game world. So when it was revealed that there was to be DLC to expand on the some what lacking online, many seemed to think it would fill those tiny cracks that scar the other wise perfect monument of the excellence of the western genre. Three of these five add-ons that were announced are all ready out in the forms of the ‘Outlaws to the end’, ‘Lairs and Cheats’ and the ‘Legends and Killers’ packs.

So when it came out that there would be an add-on to the single player it was a welcome surprise but when it was announced that this DLC was about zombies, well it was a bit shocking to say the least. Here was a game with VERY subtle links to humour, that only the driest of wits would be able to understand, it was saying “Look we are putting in zombies, with the dead rising only John Marston can save the day!” This went against everything RDR stood for. Marston never wanted to be the Hero and he was never any thing more then the tool to tip the balance, either in the Law, Revolutions or wiping out the buffalo, but he never was the big action hero to save the world. This aspect is what made Marston so relatable and thus the game so immersive. So from what I can see you have to rescue the world from the living dead (probably going for the ‘Hell’s full and the dead rise form the dead to make room’ route of the zombie back story).

The trailer is up and running and I see it involves Bonnie MacFarlane and Marshal Johnson, strangely Moses Forth (one of those very subtle links) is involved but as I have killed him in every one of my play troughs of the western epic I wonder if they changed other aspects of the game. So a full review will be available in around a week. Until then if you want to see the trailer use the link at the bottom of the article: The Red UnDead trailer
