Apple VS Adobe The Battle Of The A’s

Apple VS Adobe The Battle Of The A’s

Apple and Adobe have been having an ongoing war, what I’m going to do is show you what’s been happening lately and hopefully help make up your mind on which side you are on.

Latest News On Battle

Adobes Fight

Adobe started to go as far as to start an ad campaign around the dispute. Some sites like Engadget, which brought the campaign to the industry’s attention, are displaying the ads:

When I saw this I laughed because it actually made me realize that they were actually having a Proper fight, Also the founders of Adobe released an open letter addressing Apple’s recent spate of clear and direct attacks against the company and its products. Here’s Some Quotes From The Open Letter

We believe that consumers should be able to freely access their favourite content and applications, regardless of what computer they have, what browser they like, or what device suits their needs. No company – no matter how big or how creative – should dictate what you can create, how you create it, or what you can experience on the web.

When markets are open, anyone with a great idea has a chance to drive innovation and find new customers. Adobe’s business philosophy is based on a premise that, in an open market, the best products will win in the end – and the best way to compete is to create the best technology and innovate faster than your competitors.

We believe that Apple, by taking the opposite approach, has taken a step that could undermine this next chapter of the web – the chapter in which mobile devices outnumber computers, any individual can be a publisher, and content is accessed anywhere and at any time.

In the end, we believe the question is really this: Who controls the World Wide Web? And we believe the answer is: nobody – and everybody, but certainly not a single company.

Apple’s Fight

It all basically started when apple didn’t put flash on the iphone and ipod touch, at first we kinda cried (my opinion) but we all thought oh maybe they try sand out it on the next time

NO,NO,NO And No

we now have 3 generations of ipod touch, 4 generations of iphone (that’s because the iphone 4G was leaked) and we still do not have a slither of flash, maybe if you jailbreak you might have slightly something like flash but who are we kidding we don’t have Flash. If you are wondering why we don’t have flash its because Apple thinks that it too big and lumpy for the iphone/ipod touch to run and what they are trying to do is promote HTML5, If you are wondering what HTML 5 is well here’s what Wikipedia says:

HTML5 is being developed as the next major revision of HTML (HyperText Markup Language), the core markup language of the World Wide Web. HTML5 is the proposed next standard for HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0 and DOM Level 2 HTML. It aims to reduce the need for proprietary plug-in-based rich internet application (RIA) technologies such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Sun JavaFX.

Youtube has been testing HTML5 and I must say I kinda like it, it doesn’t take as long to load and the good thing about HTML5 is that it probably will not crash as much a Flash or any other software’s. Apple is promoting HTML5 because they think that’s its more open than flash.

CBS has been using HTML5 so that it works for the ipad etc.

My Opinion

Apple has a good point of view, When asked Steve jobs said that if there was flash on the iphone/ipod touch then it would absolutely kill the iphones battery, I don’t think this will happen, yes it will reduce the battery but until apple has approved flash and someone who has a lot of spare time puts on a 24hr flash video and leaves the iphone on and times it then we just don’t know.

Adobe is most likely pissed of, why? because Apple announced changes to its App Developer License agreement that effectively banned the use of cross-compiler programs for iPhone app development The move is seen as a direct attack on the Flash-to-iPhone compiler application available with the recently launched Adobe Creative Suite 5 so what do Adobe do ? well they stop working of flash for the iphone. Also HTML5 is coming and it will probably reduce the overall use of Flash. What I want adobe to do is make flash available on Cydia (Jailbreak App) so that people who jailbreak can get flash, this will most likely annoy Apple because more people will jailbreak and as we all know from apple trying to ban jailbreaking legally that they don’t like this.

Well i’ve said what I want to say so go ahead and pick your side.
